Q:Is there any eligibility criterion for having a health insurance policy?

A: Anyone above the age of 3-month (for the health floater plan) can take a health insurance policy. However, the insurer may ask you to go through a medical check-up to ascertain your health condition before issuing the policy. On the basis of the underwriting guidelines which include age, health condition, family history, etc. the insurer will determine whether to give you a health plan or not.

Q: What are TPAs?

A: TPAs or third-party administrators are intermediaries between insurance companies, policyholders and hospitals. A TPA helps policyholders settle his/her claim hassle-free by establishing communication between the policyholder, the treating hospital and the insurer.
But make sure that the company has in-house claim settlement rather than making you depend on the TPA.

Q: What is NCB (No Claim Bonus)?

A: ‘No Claim Bonus’ is an additional sum insured offered by the insurer on the policy renewal to those customers who have no claims in the preceding year. and is calculated as a percentage of sum insured
The NCB ranges from 5% to 100%. Its advised to make sure that the plan you wish to buy has maximum NCB.

Q: What does health insurance cover?

A: A health insurance policy covers all the expenses related to hospitalization. You need to be hospitalized for continuous 24 hours to avail the benefit. Apart from this, it also covers expenses related to day care procedures, pre and post hospitalization, ambulance charges, donor expenses, etc.
